Constabulary Commend LED Security Lighting
Fife
Constabulary has commended the installation of LED security luminaires
at a Fife High school which provide an enhanced level of performance
for the CCTV systems.
The
luminaires were designed and manufactured by Eness Lighting Systems,
one of the UK’s leading developers of LED lighting solutions,
to provide a solution to security problems faced by the School.
Norrie
Scott, Managing Director of Eness explained, “The Education
Department were having problems with security at a particular
school however due to the poor quality of the light provided by
sodium lamp sources, the police were unable to identify the perpetrators
captured by the CCTV footage.”
Working
with Fife Council’s facilities management department, the
Eness Development team, designed and manufactured the Scorpius
LED wall packette which not only provided the quality of white
light required but also delivered substantial cost, performance
and environmental benefits that are critical in meeting the Council’s
future sustainability and environmental policy requirements.
The
Scorpius luminaire incorporates 30 high-performance Watt LEDs
to deliver a superb level of bright white light with a colour
temperature of 5600k. The use of LEDs means that additional benefits
include no restrike time and the luminaire is not affected by
low temperatures.
Mr
Scott continued, “The results at Woodmill High
School are outstanding. Not only does CCTV now provide superbly
clear pictures which has significantly improved the overall performance
of the system, the Council is enjoying energy savings of over
70% per annum and need never worry about changing the luminaries
for the next 15 years.”
Fife Constabulary’s Architectural Liaison Officer, Stuart
Ward, commented, “Quality white lighting, uniformly distributed,
provides not only an increase in the identification of persons
when using CCTV, but an increase in public confidence.
Recent
research has shown that lighting improvements to white light has
had a greater impact on the perception of safety and security
than the installation of CCTV Cameras. The installations of the
Scorpius luminaires at Woodmill High School, Dunfermline, have
proved that quality white lighting within anti-vandal housings
can improve the perceptions of the physical environment, further
enhancing Community Safety overall.”
